Yesterday, over Gchat:
JG: i’m really sad you are going to get to give ted his first taste of snow
RA: oh
RA: uh, sorry
JG: its ok
JG: not your fault
RA: is it snowing at our house?
JG: probably
RA: I will document it
JG: thanks kiddo
JG was optimistic that Ted would take well to this new, alien ground covering. He likes to joke about how Ted is from hardy, Scottish stock (the “highland” part of his breed), that he was bred to roam the lochs and sniff out vermin. His double coat helps him withstand the northern cold, so Ted doesn’t need some crap doggie sweater or costume, regardless of how adorable he would be.
Alas, JG had class last night, so I was left to introduce Ted to snow. He peered out to the white landscape while I bundled up in scarf and hat, and he pawed the snowy stoop cautiously once we ventured out. He sniffed our snow-covered shrubbery and made motions of taking it all in calmly until he started all-out frolicking. I let out the slack on his adjustable leash, and Ted bounded here and there and all over our front yard in a puff of powder. JG took him on a real walk later on and confirmed that our puppy loves the snow.
I guess it’s that Scottish blood.
Come and get your (almost) daily dog dose with Rufus, Ben, Gus, and Zapp!

Ben reacted to his first snow the exact same way. He checked it out cautiously and then all of a sudden was like, “What is this magical substance?! It’s AMAZING! Why have you not given me this before?” He bounds around in it, buries his face and flips snow up with his snout, and has a great big SNOW!!! party. It’s so adorable. But “Eskimo” is part of his breed name, so if he didn’t love snow we would have been a little concerned.
Ted + Snow = Super Cute.
I’m actually relieved that Ted likes the snow so much because I had visions of having to coax him outside for walks in the bitter cold.
My childhood dog was a regular snow frolicker, too! It’s too cute! Just make sure you don’t get Ted lost in a snow drift; it’s excellent camouflage for him!
Oh, you don’t have to tell me. He yanked the leash right out of my hand (I was a little distracted in the effort of taking pictures) and I was so so afraid that I would lose him.
Yay! I’m so glad Ted likes the snow. Rufus is a huge fan himself. It’s hard for me to get him to come back inside! Kaya, on the other hand, runs in the other direction when we open the door to go out.
How interesting about Kaya! I wonder if it’s the snow or the cold, or what.
