When Laurel and I schemed up this whole Secret Blogger Santa escapade, it was thrill enough to throw it all together so that it would be remotely coherent to the viewing public. This challenge has not disappointed; working with Laurel to figure out the logistics has given well-needed exercise to that small, insistent part of my brain aspires for me to be a wedding planner, if it were not for brides with bad taste and working on the weekends.
I am pleasantly surprised to discover that the most fun part has been to witness the amazing creativity and thoughtfulness that SBSers are putting into their recipients’ gifts! Sitting here in the background of SBS HQ, we’re forwarding e-mails with gifts that would not have even entered my brain, like a virtual pet adoption, a collage of photos, and original poetry. Recipes, blog banners, and images of favorite celebrities are flying through the information superhighway, not to mention a bevy of e-cards, including the cute and thoughtful one I received from my very own SBS (thanks!). Appreciative e-mails, thank-you posts on SBS blogs, and comments about having fun bring a glow to this elf’s heart.
Wam, fuzzy feelings come in right on cue to combat the crankiness that comes with scraping of the windshield, slipping on icy sidewalks, and rooting around for gloves. Winter comes like a slap to the face, but it’s nice to have small pleasures to soften the blow, like baking brownies with white chocolate and peppermint, finishing a great book, and receiving a fun little package from a secret sender.
That said, if you’re an SBSer and you haven’t sent along your first-week gift, hop to it! SBS elves may be full of holiday spirit, but we’re no softies!

You would be a wedding planner, would you? In that case, I think you should do at least one post about your ideas for a wedding. Since I’m in the middle of planning one… I need all the help I can get!
Ooh. Be careful what you wish for… over two years later, I still have my wedding binder! Pathetic, I know. I’ll see what I can do…
When I was planning my wedding, I couldn’t help but think how great it would be to do that for a living. The spreadsheets! The organizing! The planning! But then, like you, I thought about the tasteless brides and weekend hours and decided to stick with the editing.
Exactly my thoughts.
p.s. please share brownie recipe
Oh, yes, sorry for the oversight - I’ll write it up next week.
I know I was hesitant at first, but I’m really glad I joined in. Thanks to you and Laurel for being such good elves
Yay, I’m so pleased that you’re having fun.
You are excellent elves. I received some really cute earrings from my SBS. I have to thank her publicly. Thanks for the reminder!
Thanks, Ree! That’s a great gift, too.
What a wonderful idea - I LOVE secret santa! Unfortunately I can’t get my ass into gear quick enough to take part. Well, I’ll DEFINITELY be in next year - that gives me a year to get organised!
Fantastic! I have hopes of an annual thing, but only if there’s demand, you know?
If Crazy Laurel ever (*ahem*) gets what she wants, you can be my wedding spreadsheet buddy!
I have also been impressed by the SBS creativity! I think we’re sending tons of good vibes into the web universe!
Girl, I had the rocking-est wedding spreadsheet ever (in my experience). It calculated how many tables I’d need, the proportion of our headcount was at the “child” rate for the caterer, the percentage rate of return for RSVPS - you name it. Plus, it was all sortable and color-coded! I lived and died by it.
