Dogarazzi: Week 29

Since we got back from our weekend away, life with Ted has been somewhat confusing. JG’s college-age sister stayed at our place to dogsit, and she didn’t report anything out of the ordinary, except for a spate of chewing that we could have expected. Over the past few days, Ted has been just slightly off in what we would expect from him. The morning routine seems disorienting now, and he’s startled when we scold him for typical misdemeanors. Ted’s eating habits are erratic again, and he bursts out barking for no apparent reason.

Is it just the change in routine? I remember Ted acting a little funny after we were away for Labor Day weekend, so that could be it. We were gone for four days this time, and then Monday and Tuesday evening were abnormal because of JG’s grad class and going climbing. Maybe we haven’t been around enough. We had a relatively quiet night yesterday, but Ted seemed a little mopey and drowsy for most of it. I don’t know. I feel bad that we were late in giving Ted his heartworm medicine — we usually do it on the first of the month, but we were away — and now I wonder if anything else is off-kilter. JG says that we’ll give it a couple of more days of acclimation before calling the vet, so that’s a little comfort.

For all I know, Ted has his times when he is not quite right, and I can understand that. But it makes me ache that he can’t tell us if anything is really wrong, that’s all.

Oh, poor Ted. I hope everything is okay. I love the photos. The black and white really fits in with the subject of the post.

Don’t fret. Sometimes they just get moody, too.

He probably just missed you and is now guilt tripping you as payback for leaving him. Or JG’s sister spoiled him while you were away and now he’s sulking about the return to boring old normal life.

But definitely keep an eye on him, and if the lethargy continues, it never hurts to give the vet a call.

Tim always makes fun of me because I always worry about things happening to Ben. What if he got bit by a spider — we have black widows and brown recluses in our area, so yes, Tim, it IS a legitimate concern! — and he couldn’t tell us what happened? How would we know how to treat him? I feel your pain, RA.

Aww, the poor little goober probably just missed you and is trying to get back on track with you guys being home.

I hope he’s just settling back into the routine with you guys … but definitely take him for a visit if you’re still concerned. Better safe!

When Tim was away in the Dominican Republic, I was Bailey’s soul caretaker. This meant that she got walked when I woke up for work and she got fed when we got back from her walk. Then she got walked when I came home from work, fed again and then walked again before bed.

Tim was only gone 5 days, but for some reason she just got into this routine with me… so the first day Tim was back and we tried to sleep in, she woke us up at 630 for a walk.

It took about a week for her to get back to normality… but if it doesn’t I would maybe call your Vet.

hi Ted!!

Poor Ted! Cheer up!

If not, maybe you need to call the Dog Whisperer?

Poor, sad, little Ted! I hope he feels better soon!

Most likely, he’s just adjusting to the change in his routine. Like Audrey said, though, if he’s not better in a few days take him to the vet. You never know!

I’m sure Ted is just off-kilter because he missed you guys. Cheer up Ted!

Ok - no fretting. You already set out a reasonable/logical plan - so stick with it. Wait, compile your observations and then go to the vet, if necessary. In the meanwhile, give him lots of hugs. I’m quite sure this is a temporary rut! :-D
