Dogarazzi: Week 33

With the onset of March, the mid-Atlantic region is doing its darnedest to turn the corner on its way to spring. I, on the other hand, enter into spring kicking and screaming, because I am a huge opponent of humidity and allergies. Yesterday, Ted and I fell victim to the seasonal transition and were caught in a torrential downpour during our morning walk. Ted shook himself every three steps, but even the most vigorous of full-body shakes did not stand a chance against the sheets of water. I breathed a sigh of relief that I had put on my winter coat as a precaution, despite the 50-degree weather, and we trudged home, dripping and soggy.

As much as I love Ted, he kind of freaks me out when he’s all wet. It’s as if my cute, little, doggie friend has been transformed into a billy goat, and he’s this close to facing off with the troll under the bridge. For his own part, Ted handles the wetness with aplomb in his efforts to rub himself against the carpet to dry out, but all he really wants to do is eat breakfast. It’s good to know that his priorities are straight.

I’ve been outed by Stacy (not to mention my own subtle lead-in) — today is my birthday! Last night, an exciting pile of packages greeted me when I came home. JG made me a delicious Birthday Eve meal of penne vodka with scallops, and I opened up and, per her instructions, tried on a lovely new dress from my awesome sister. For the rest of the night, I was busy baking two boxes of Funfetti for tonight’s frost-your-own-cupcake open house, and it all conspired to create a fun sense of birthday anticipation, the likes of which I haven’t felt for quite some time.

This morning, I listened to the cutest birthday voicemail ever: Mimi called to sing “Happy Birthday” to me, and followed it up with, “If you couldn’t tell, it’s Mimi!” Then, she apologized because she couldn’t get my card in the mail, so it would come tomorrow. A whole day late! (Note to self: tell Mimi about my love of belated birthday things.) That voicemail was the best way to start my birthday at work, and I’m saving it indefinitely for future replaying.

So far, there is no progress on The Mystery Gift of Awesomeness, but it’s just a matter of hours now. Further bulletins will be issued as events warrant.

Wet dogs can be freaky. I think this Sunday I may post a picture from Smalls’s first bath. The picture startles me every time I accidentally open it, and I think it’s time that it is shared with the Internet.

Happy Birthday!!!

Happiest of happy birthdays! What a pretty blue dress. Now you just need an occasion to wear it. Oh right, the cupcake party! I wish I were going, Funfetti is my very favorite.

Have fun with your mystery gift!

Happy Birthday (Stacy made me!).

You’re a week older than me! That is, if we were born in the same year. Which is not entirely out of the realm of possibility. But it should be noted that I didn’t ask.

Er, right. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday!!!!!!! :) :)

p.s. your dog is adorable. My dog…hates the rain with a passion. She won’t go into it, she needs a raincoat and umbrella, and she’ll crouch. she won’t walk. it’s mildly amusing but mostly annoying. :) Yay for cute pups!
