Week 6 of Whip It Up is coming to an end! This week’s theme was appetizers, and a total of 21 dishes have been tested, bringing our total number of new recipes to 247, as of press time.
Take note of the following announcements for the coming week:
- The theme for the week of August 17 is salads. What exactly constitutes a “salad” is an enigma to me. Fill me in, folks!
- For the week of August 24, our last week of Whip It Up (!), we’re looking at the last meal of the day: dessert!
- Be sure to e-mail us your post permalinks so we don’t miss your recipes.
- The last wrap-up will be posted on Sunday, August 31, which will give Nic and me time to figure out who the lucky prize winner is! The last day to publish your recipes and e-mail the links to us is Saturday, August 30.
Here are the recipes from the week:
Beverages
- Janet wished she had discovered the tasty Basil Vodka Gimlet before she had almost run out of summer to enjoy it.
Bread and Breakfast
- Zandria made Blueberry Jam in 15 minutes and declared it “most delicious.”
Appetizers
- Lacey will definitely make Baked Potato Bites again because “it allowed you to have a potato skin without all of the potato and therefore wasn’t as filling.”
- Noelle invited over vegetarians and omnivores to share Black Bean, Mushroom, and Quinoa-Stuffed Peppers.
- Jennie thought Chili Cheese Dip would be great for a football party.
- Sarah satisfied her love of “something wrapped in dough” with Crab and Goat Cheese Empanadas with Mango Chutney.
- Nancy Pearl Wannabe and I both loved Alton Brown’s Perfect Potstickers, despite the labor-intensiveness.
Beef
- OPH cooked up Blade Steaks with Mushrooms for her cycling brother and his friends, but the “sauce was seriously funky-looking.”
- Lacey used some leftover cheese from another WIU recipe for tasty Blue Cheese Burgers.
- Megan threw together a made-up “Helper” Meal to appease her fiancĂ©’s love of the boxed stuff.
- Erin’s Tomato Florentine Soup is a great substitute for one of her favorite restaurant dishes.
Poultry
- Emily tried out The Pioneer Woman’s Crispy Yogurt Chicken, but she had lackluster results.
- Heidikins grilled up Garlic-Lime Chicken for dinner this week.
Seafood
- Thanks to her parents’ sous cheffing skills, Sarah pulled off a late-night dinner of tasty Cashew Shrimp Lettuce Wraps.
- Audrey celebrated new jobs for her and her husband (yay!) with a family meal including Firecracker Salmon Steaks.
- Sherry and her husband loved Louisiana Shrimp Casserole.
Pasta
- Stephanie tweaked Lasagna Rolls to her own taste, and her guests ate it so fast that she couldn’t get a picture of the plated-up dish!
- Erin would make Pasta with Peppers and Mozzarella again, but she’d like to jazz it up a bit.
- Janelle’s Pasta with Roasted Vegetables was a hit with her family, and her husband is looking forward to different variations in the future.
- Proactive Bridesmaid made tortellini from scratch for the delicious Tortellini Prosciutto and Artichoke Persillade.
- With the help of her trusty Magic Bullet, Janet whipped up the vegan and tasty Ziti with Sun-Dried Tomato Cream.
Side Dishes
- Heidikins emulated one of her favorite Utah restaurants with Cafe Rio Cilantro Rice.
- OPH had success with low-maintenance Grilled Portobellos.
- I was sad that I did not love Guacamole Salad.
- Megan whipped up Guacamole to go along with her homemade tortilla chips!
- Despite a recipe mishap, Meghan was able to salvage her Jamaican Rice and Beans and deemed it “okay.”
- Proactive Bridesmaid created her own Panzanella Salad that was “lovely and fresh and summery.”
- Janelle combined two recipes she found to create Pizza Potato Casserole.
- Jennie was excited about her dentist’s gift of fresh tomatoes, but she would not make Quick Broiled Tomatoes again.
- Heidikins added Roasted Potatoes with Artichoke Hearts to her list of staple recipes!
- Julie claimed that she “found heaven in the form of Watermelon Salsa!”
Desserts
- Janssen’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Oat Bars were a hit at a TV night with friends.
- Kelly called Joseph’s Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes “definitely a winner!” and her Peach “Cobbler” was a nostalgic treat.
- Which Box used fresh-picked peaches in her Peach-Blueberry Cobbler.
- There’s no need for a campfire with Meghan’s S’more Cookie Bars!

It’s almost over
I kind of want to make a book of all these recipes!
Ooooh, I am definitely trying some of these!
xox
Oh, man, I need to get cookin’! I still need to make a new recipe this week so I’m safe if I don’t get one in next week (I’ll be in AZ all week for editor training). Of course, if all else fails, I supposed I could always whip up some hotel-room-improvised something or other — it’d make for a good post, at the very least!
