Status: melodramatic

Oh, my lands, Gchat is mysteriously disabled, and it is affecting me more than it would any sane person.  Earlier this morning, that pale yellow box benignly cautioned that there were technical difficulties, and it would try to reconnect in 72, 71, 70 seconds.  I followed the instructions on the help page to log out and clear my cache, but now, the message is firm:  Gchat is disabled.  Figure it out, fool.

(Okay, maybe I threw in that last part.)

I would not be so frantic if I didn’t see a bizarre message related to Google domains yesterday afternoon, which rendered me unable to even get to my inbox.  It was the second time I had encountered it, and my second round of panicked searching for a solution turned up nothing.  I found the Gmail help group to be startlingly unfriendly with all of their severe warnings to search first and don’t ask redundant questions and this group is not for this and that.  I just wanted to send my screen shot somewhere!  I didn’t care if it was some giant Support Issues inbox, but at least I would have felt like I did something.

Then I found a forum where someone made a comment to the effect of “that sounds viral,” and I immediately went on attack mode with virus scans.  So far, nothing has come up, which is all the more infuriating.  If the issue is me, and not Google, then where is the little imp?  I am flailing at diagnosing and treating my computer’s ailments, and I can’t even post a status message of my ire.  For once, I was seriously tempted to join Twitter, but I have resisted thus far.

I’m grateful that I can see my inbox, at least, but I would like to think that this inconvenience would not cause such a furor in me if it were not for the context of my week.  My day yesterday was overcome by an overzealous article author who called me no less than five times to reiterate e-mails I had already received, in addition to calling me twice already this morning, so that does not bode well.  It’s JG’s first week at school with students, so that automatically makes more stress and fatigue for all of us.  My parents are coming this weekend for an unfortunately rainy festival, and I am getting more and more nervous about my 5K on Sunday.  If only I could vent my anxiety into a little status message, or even better, a chat box!  If only!

Dude, this is killing me too. You’re pretty much the only person I chat with on Gchat!

Is it still not working? Why does it look like it works for me? Is my computer playing tricks on me? :)

Btw, it’s so great that there are people in my life who not only wouldn’t care (read: think I’m a horrific dork) if I had a similar problem, but actually understand! To the point of making a title that describes it all perfectly!

This is why I love the Internet.

Yeah, you’re like my sole gchat friend. Maybe OPH and I will have to start chatting instead!

Mine appears to currently be working but rest assured that yesterday mine was disabled too.

I have been having problems on and off with Google (Gmail and Gchat) since Monday. And I do not like it. ONE BIT!

Welcome to my world, though, since my work blocks Gchat. It’s pure evil, I tell you.

You’re running a 5K on Sunday? Awesome! You’ll do great, RA!

I wanted to make sure I stopped by today to invite you over to see our new RubyTwo! And guess what?! She’s NOT Taupe! :)
