Over the weekend, I said to JG, “My blogiversary is on Monday.”
“How many years now?”
“Three.”
“Wow.”
“I know.”
I tried to write some pithy commentary about being a blogger, but all I have is a distinct sense of gratitude, especially to JG for being so long-suffering when I take pictures of food before he’s allowed to eat it, pause mid-conversation to outline a blog post in my mind, and relate stories about my feed-reader friends, among other such bizarre behavior.
I am also grateful to all of the lovely people out in the internet world who have commented on my writing and photographs, commiserated over frustrations and letdowns, and cooperated in zany schemes to put together outfits or cook a lot. It’s been so fun and unexpected as these virtual conversations have turned into real friendships.
So, thank you, everyone.
[Umm, by "pithy commentary," I certainly did not intend a quasi-Oscar speech, but that's what appears to have emerged. My apologies.]
In light of this blogiversary, let’s do some annual Q&A! Drop me a question (or several), and I will be sure to milk the responses for all they’re worth. As usual, I reserve the option to abstain from answering publicly or at all, blah blah blah.
If there are any lurkers out there, I’d love it if you came out of hiding for today, whether you come bearing a question or not. Indulge me!

Happy Blogiversary! And even if this post isn’t the pithy commentary on blogging that you intended, I think that it’s perfectly touching. Thank goodness for husbands who wait patiently while we photograph our appetizers. My question: now that you’ve transformed your spectacular kitchen, are there any other household projects that you’re itching to begin? Or was the kitchen remodel more than enough renovation for the near (or distant!?) future?
A lurker…. coming out of the shadows… or something that sounds a little less creepy. Have been reading your blog for a long while now.. happy 3rd anniversary..! I love reading about your adventures in the kitchen and I have tried a couple of your recipes out. So my question to you: If you could only make one recipe for the rest of your life… what would you choose? (incredibly unrealistic… but I am interested nonetheless)
Happy Blogiversary!
So this isn’t a question, but rather a request: I would like to see examples of these rather infamous spreadsheets of yours.
Happy Blogiversary!
Happy Blogiversary! I’ve been lurking since WIU last year, so I guess it’s time to actually admit it. Mine’s more of a request than a question, but I want the Peanut Butter Brownie recipe. They look yummy!
This is me de-lurking… I found you via a google search for a recipe several months ago and I stayed when I found your kitchen/fridge/recipe organization. I loved it!
Happy 3 years and thanks so much for all of your posts!
If you could change one thing about your husband, what would it be? What music is on constant rotation on your playlist? What do you think about that weird green that every Prius in Minneapolis is painted? When it’s 150 degrees outside, do you use the AC or just deal with fans? Do you love Ira Glass as much as I do? Do you think about monkeys every day? Do people ever think you’re going to steal their child/dog/bicycle/car/purse because you are eying them so covetously?
I have so many questions, I don’t know where to start. What’s your favorite book? There, I’ve started.
Happy Blogiversary!
Q: What are your top 3 favorite recipes.
Q: What is your favorite flower.
Q: What type of art do you like?
Q: What is your destination-vacation du jour?
xox
I think I’ve commented before, but I have been reading for at least 2 of the years. I don’t even remember how I originally found your site. I am a big fan of both America’s Test Kitchen and Excel spreadsheets, so you always make me smile when you reference those! Loved Whip it Up and hope that comes around again soon. I don’t have my own blog, but I tried so many of the recipes that came out of that. Are you going to organize a second one in anticipation of your busy fall?
Hi. Semi-lurker here. Used to have a blog. Considering getting another. I want to make sure I can really commit to one this time. I admire you very much for finding so many interesting topics to post on – on a regular basis!
How do you respond to the never ending question of (at least in my case) “when are you going to have kids?” Who would you say is the more outgoing, you or JG? Do you keep a spreadsheet for blog post topics? (I second the request to see examples! of any kind of spreadsheet.)
Happy Blogiversary to you!
I’m a lurker. I’ve been reading your blog for close to 2 years now I think. I’m not sure that I’ve ever commented on anything, so here I am! My absolute favorite thing I ever saw was M:PT. I was too shy to join last year, so I am hoping that it happens again (soon!) so I can come out of hiding.
Questions I have…hmm…How do you feel hand held vacuums? I kind of want one, but is it something that should be relegated to my parents since I, of course, am a happening gal. Favorite cleaning supply? Any secret tips that you have for keeping your house organized? Coolest gadget you’ve picked up for under 10 bucks that you use regularly?
Congrats on three years! I’m so glad I commented after you on Neil’s Great Interview Experiment (or whatever that was called), and subsequently got to be interviewed by you. I really enjoy your writing style and your incredible attention to detail in all that you do. And, I think I owe it to you for turning me on to HIMYM and TBBT. So, thanks! You rock!
Now, my questions …
Would you entertain the idea of getting a second dog, a companion for Ted? If so, what kind? And would you go through Puppydom again? (I know I wouldn’t!)
Who do people say you look like, famous or otherwise?
How do you feel about Etsy? Have you ever purchased anything from Etsy, and if so, what?
Do you drink coffee? If so, how do you make it? (Coffee maker, French press … ?)
That’s all I got for now!
Congrats on three years! Your blog is a toddler now!
What I would like to know is what you find the easiest and hardest topics to write about. Everything you write seems to be clear and honest and you always seem to have the right words, but I can’t imagine you always feel that way (at least, I know I don’t!). So what topics do you enjoy writing about the most?
Happy happy 3 years!
I can’t really think of anything right now… but I can’t wait to see the questions that you do pick to answer
Happy belated blogiversary! I completely forgot about mine a couple months ago…I think it would have been number 4? Anyway, congrats on 3 years — that’s something to celebrate!
Well this is obscenely late but I’m FINALLY (!) getting caught up so happy blogoversary!
I thought of you last night as I was laying there wide awake feeling the house shake with every rumble and crack of thunder. Argh! The girls, of course, slept through it all. Just me, awake and freaking out that my computer and the Wii were going to explode with some power surge….
